The First International Conference on “Changing World Order: Blue Wars in the Eastern Mediterranean’’ was held in Kyrenia on November 18-19, under the auspices of Bahçeşehir Cyprus University Research Center of the Law of Sea and Maritime, Turkish Historical Society, Turkish Ministry of the Interior Gendarmerie General Command and Coast Guard Academy Security Sciences Institute, National Defence University Naval War Institute, Koç University KUDENFOR, and Mersin Chamber of Maritime Commerce. Many reputable participants attended to the conference to present their opinions on Eastern Mediterranean conflict.
Opening remarks by BAU-DEHUKAM Director Asst. Prof Dr. Emete Gözügüzelli, Rector Prof. Dr. Zafer Ağdelen, Koç University Maritime Forum (KUDENFOR) Director Ret. Admiral Cem Gürdeniz, Turkish Historical Society Resident Prof. Dr. Refik Turan, Head of Security Institute of Gendarmerie Coast Guard Academy Colonel Gökhan Sarı, Political Scientist and Political Consultant Prof. Dr. Aleksandr Dugin, Chairman of the Board of Trustees Eral Osmanlar, Turkish Ambassador Murat Başçeri and TRNC Minister of Economy and Energy Hasan Taçoy were followed by the welcome speeches of the foreign guests. The conference, that continued for two days, were divided into three sessions under the topics of “Changing International Order and Its Implications on Eurasia”, “From Asia to Eastern Mediterranean: Energy and Security”, and “The New Energy Equation in the Eastern Mediterranean Region”. Reputable local and international guests, who were experts in their fields, presented their opinions on prespecified topics, and after each session, Q&A sessions were held to clarify the points made by the participants.
The conference with it’s prestigious guests, attracted a lot of attention from the press as well. Eral Osmanlar (Chairman of the Board of Trustees) underlined that he wished this significant conference to light the way for other important works on this topic.
