Business Doctorate Program Short Description

The Business doctorate program at Bahçeşehir Cyprus University aims to provide students with the ability to design, implement and analyze the processes required for their management functions, and to train graduates who can both practice their profession and transfer to higher degree programs.

Business Doctorate Program Curriculum

The Business Doctorate Program consists of seven courses, a seminar course and thesis work, with a total of not less than 21 credits. Three of the seven courses offered within the program are compulsory and the other 4 are elective. In addition to midterm and final exams, learning activities such as reports, assignments, quizzes, seminar presentations and project work are foreseen in the performance evaluation of the student during the semester. In order for students to graduate, they must have at least 21 credits, as well as successfully pass seminars and thesis studies.

The Business Doctorate Program can be completed in at least eight semesters and at most twelve semesters. Students are required to be successful with at least a “B” grade from all the courses prescribed in the doctorate program. In order to complete the program, students must successfully pass the proficiency exam by the end of the sixth semester at the latest. Students who are successful in the proficiency exam can start their thesis studies, choose an advisor in the fields they want, and carry out the thesis research with the support of their advisor. The doctorate student is obliged to write the thesis in accordance with the thesis writing rules of the relevant institute and to defend the thesis orally in front of the jury. In order for the thesis jury to be appointed, the candidate must have published an article in a journal scanned by SCI, SSCI or AHCI in the field related to the doctoral thesis, or at least one publication accepted for publication (YODAK, 2901.2007, Circular No: 1 1f)

Program Learning Outcomes

Students who complete the program will have achieved the following outcomes:

  1. Developing strategies, policies and implementation plans to address the issues in the fields of business administration and management, and evaluating the consequences according to the processes of quality,
  2. Broadening and deepening the knowledge about business administration at the doctorate level based on the master’s level qualifications,
  3. Comprehending the interaction across various disciplines related to the field of business administration, and evaluating the knowledge and skills gained on an interdisciplinary dimension,
  4. Using theoretical and practical information and skills gained at the expertise level in the field business administration,
  5. Analyzing problems requiring expertise in the field business administration by using scientific research methods,
  6. Evaluating a problem in the business administration field independently, developing a way for solution, solving the problem, and evaluating the results,
  7. Developing new strategic approaches to solve unforeseen complex issues in the business administration field through integrative and creative elaboration,
  8. Evaluating the knowledge related to the field of business administration through critical perspective,
  9. Communicating systematically the recent developments and one’s individual studies in the field of business administration to the groups within and outside the field via written, oral, and visual presentations,
  10. Analyzing the social relations and the norms through critical perspective, developing effective relations, training leaders who are capable of sustaining these social relations, applying teamwork and managing risk and change in the field of business administration.

Assessment

Course assessment usually consists of a comprehensive final exam, midterm exam, literature reviews, case studies, presentations, projects and class participation.

Letter grades are calculated based on the weight of the final exam, midterm exam, quizzes, case analysis, projects, assignments etc. and the actual numerical grades achieved in these assessment components. The semester grade point average (GPA) and grade point average (CPA) of the student are calculated according to the course grades.

Graduation

The student has to complete 240 ECTS and all program requirements. A minimum cumulative grade point average (CPA) of 3.0 is required. Students are required to be successful with at least a “B” grade from all the courses prescribed in the doctorate program.
