1. Sociolinguistics: Sociolinguistics is the study of the relationship between language and society. Sociolinguistics is concerned with how language use interacts with, or is affected by, social factors such as gender, ethnicity, age or social class, for instance.

2. Language and Interaction: Introduces key concepts in language and social interaction. Describes how individuals develop skills in social interaction and shows how people create identities through their use of language. Brings together essential readings in anthropology, discourse studies and sociology.
