A press conference was held at the Grand Pasha Hotel to announce the upcoming “BAU CYPRUS CUP” inter-university basketball tournament, organized by Bahçeşehir Cyprus University, scheduled to take place from November 8 to 11, 2023. The event garnered a significant turnout of media representatives and featured valuable insights about the tournament from BAU Cyprus University’s esteemed Rector, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Toycan, and Basketball Federation President, Orhun Mevlit. Notable attendees included Hüseyin Aşkın Kınacı, President of the TRNC University Sports Federation, and Necati Özsoy, President of the TRNC Sports Writers Association, along with team managers from participating universities.
During the conference, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Toycan, the Rector of Bahçeşehir Cyprus University, underscored the significance of inter-university basketball tournaments. He expressed their ambition to establish pre-season basketball tournaments as a cherished tradition and conveyed his delight in contributing to the inter-university basketball scene through the “BAU CYPRUS CUP.” Furthermore, he highlighted the abundance of talented athletes in the country and believed that this tournament would serve as a pivotal platform for both witnessing and showcasing their skills. Rector Toycan extended an open invitation to all sports enthusiasts, stating, “I invite everyone to join us for the exciting tournament matches hosted by our university.”
The matchups for the pre-season basketball tournament at the Atatürk Sports Hall were determined through a draw: YDÜ-DAÜ on November 8 at 18:00, followed by RDÜ-BAU Cyprus at 20:00. On November 11, the tournament will conclude with the 3rd place match at 4:00pm, and the highly anticipated 1st place match at 6:00pm.
